First Aid Trainer - Combined PTLLS & FAW

This course is designed to enable the successful candidate wishing to train and assess QCF approved first aid at work courses that are recognised by the Health & safety Executive.

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) is the starting point for anyone involved in the delivery of learning, the course is part of the National Qualifications Framework and is set at Level 3. This combined with the Level 3 First Aid at Work course provides the necessary training qualifications and experience to deliver First Aid training within the workplace. 

Under current QCF/HSE guidance those wishing to deliver Level 3 First Aid at Work training must meet, as a minimum, the following criteria:

- Current, in-date FAW certificate-unless a Registered General Nurse, Doctor or State Registered Paramedic, with current first aid knowledge
- Training qualification** and/or experience 
- Background in first aid within the workplace 

On successful completion students will be qualified to train and assess Level 3 First Aid at Work and Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work courses through QCF regcognised awarding bodies.

It is important to understand that it is the QCF approved Awarding Organisations (AOs) that hold the QCF recognition to approve suitable tutors to deliver First Aid at work courses.

Remote First Aid are a recognised training centre registered with Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance in respect to the delivery of First Aid at Work training courses and successful students may register their details with Remote First Aid to deliver FAW & EFAW courses immediately.


What are the course outcomes?
This programme is designed to enable delegates to: 

- Adopt an integrative approach to the theory and practice of teaching and training. 
- Reflect on their own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills, and potential for development. 
- Build up knowledge of principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation. 
- Develop own communication and interpersonal skills. 
- Develop an awareness of their professional role, the essential value systems which underpin it and the legal requirements for carrying out that role. 
- In addition students will receive training and advice in delivering and assessing First Aid courses. 

What are the entry requirements?
There is a considerable amount of written work to be completed. This will involve reading of supplied reference books, researching specific topics, applying theory to practical scenarios and demonstrating knowledge and understanding through written work. Therefore, candidates for this course should have a good standard of written and verbal communications skills and must be in possession of a valid first aid at work or emergency first aid at work qualification or equivalent unless exempt.

How long is the course? 
The combined course is run as six straight days with evening work as well. On days one and two you will complete the Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification, and then followed by the PTLLS course over the next four days. This includes preparing and then delivering first aid training modules to the peer group with a final assessment on day six.

Cost:
The cost of this course when attending an “open” course is £730 per student inclusive of VAT. This covers certification, manuals, tea/coffee In addition all successful students receive a Instructors pack that includes all that is needed to train level 3 FAW and level 2 EFAW courses including lesson plans and schemes of work.

The cost of this course is £3499 inclusive of VAT for up to 6 students when run at your venue. Additional students are charged at £399 inclusive of VAT per person.


Continuing Personal/Professional Development (CPD):
In addition to the above, Instructors must commit to maintaining their personal/professional development in respect to first aid training, if you have registered with Remote First Aid to delivery HABC FAW and/or EFAW courses this will require an annual observation by a senior member from Remote First Aid or HABC when delivering a FAW or EFAW course. This observation is for a minimum period of 3 hours and ensures your continued presence on the HABC register. Failure to comply with this element and you will no longer be able to deliver FAW courses until this requirement is fulfilled. The fee for this annual service is £150. Maintaining your FAW qualification every three years along with a demonstrable portfolio of delivering at least six (6) FAW or EFAW courses per annum will allow you to continue to deliver HSE approved courses with HSE Registered companies.

Equivalent qualifications** If you have qualifications from outside the European Economic Area (EEA), the National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) will be able to advise you on whether your qualifications are equivalent to the minimum requirements set out above, and they may also provide certification where appropriate.
